Brain Awareness Campaign Event — The Value of SciArt Partnerships for SciEd
Organizer/Moderator: Cristian ZaelzerJust a fraction of the scientific knowledge produced in laboratories reaches people in the street. Science communication poses a challenge to scientists due to the disparities created by years of training and exposure to critical thinking. Emotions and facts clash, and we get lost in translation. This short talk gives some rationale for the collaborative tools offered by graphic design and fine arts to explore the use of emotions in science communication and education; the bridge is possible.
Diversity Poster Session
Organizer/Moderator: Society for NeuroscienceJoin a special poster session and networking event featuring participants of the Neuroscience Scholars Program (NSP). Other diversity fellowships supported by the NIH/NINDS Office of Programs to Enhance Neuroscience Workforce Diversity will be featured as well.
International Fellows Poster Session

Career Development Topics — A Networking Event
Organizer/Moderator: Society for NeuroscienceExperienced neuroscientists will answer attendee questions on a wide range of topics at this informal roundtable event. Topics include work-life balance, securing grants, setting up a lab, choosing a postdoctoral position, and careers outside of academia, among others. Nearly 30 tables will be offered at the event. During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to rotate among the tables that are of interest to them. Neuroscientists at all career stages are encouraged to attend.

Social Issues Roundtable — Thinking on Its Own — Artificial Intelligence for Neuroscience and Mental Health(care)
Organizer/Moderator: Marija PetrinovicSpeaker: Chris Kalafatis, Raymond Moh, Ivana Poparic
Ubiquitous in our everyday lives, artificial intelligence (AI) holds enormous potential to promote discovery and innovation in neuroscience and improve diagnosis and treatment of neuropsychiatric conditions — if we can use it right. This event will explore how AI may be used in neuroscience and mental health(care), discuss possible barriers to its use, and separate hype from reality. The exploration of associated ethical issues will focus on ensuring public trust and patient safety and privacy, while not wasting or delaying opportunities to use AI to help these patients.
