Late-Breaking Abstracts FAQ
What is a late-breaking abstract?
In order to showcase the most recent and exciting science at Neuroscience 2024, this year SfN is experimenting with holding a second call for abstracts. Abstracts submitted during this second window are referred to as late-breaking abstracts.
When can I submit my late-breaking abstract?
Late-breaking abstracts will be accepted July 23–August 1.
I already submitted an abstract to Neuroscience 2024. Can I submit a late-breaking abstract?
Yes.
What type of research will be accepted as a late-breaking abstract?
Research should be neuroscience-centered and report timely, exciting work. Submissions will be held to a higher standard of review than regular SfN abstracts. Only scientific abstracts (Themes A — I) will be accepted. See the Rules page for additional details.
What do I need to prepare for my late-breaking abstract submission?
You will need the abstract title, abstract body, name, affiliation, and conflict of interest information for all authors, support/grant information, keywords, and theme and topic selection.
Will there be an editing period for late-breaking abstracts?
No. Abstracts (including author blocks) must be finalized by the submission deadline. There will be no extensions or editing period.
What type of presentation can I request for my late-breaking abstract?
Late-breaking abstracts can only be presented as a poster. Posters can be in person, virtual only, or both.
Where will late-breaking abstracts be presented during Neuroscience 2024?
Late-breaking abstracts will be presented in a Late-Breaking Abstracts poster section adjacent to the main poster floor.
Can I request a specific presentation date/time or to have my late-breaking abstracts presented alongside specific other research presented at Neuroscience 2024?
Requests for specific presentation dates/times cannot be honored. All late-breaking abstracts will be presented in a separate Late-Breaking Abstracts poster section adjacent to the main poster floor. There will not be linking groups for the late-breaking abstracts.
Is there an abstract submission fee?
Late-breaking abstracts are subject to SfN’s nonrefundable $165 abstract submission fee. This is the same fee required of abstracts submitted during the regular call for abstracts.
Will late-breaking abstracts be searchable and citable in the mobile app and on the Neuroscience Meeting Planner?
Late-breaking abstracts will appear sometime after the initial release of the mobile app and the Neuroscience Meeting Planner, but before the beginning of Neuroscience 2024.
Can I be a presenting author on an abstract if I am not an SfN member?
Similar to the regular call for abstracts, the submitting author of an abstract is required to be an active SfN member. Any of the co-authors included in an abstract's author block can be the presenting author. All co-authors included on abstract author blocks are required to have a free My SfN account. Membership is not required to create an account or to be a presenting author. If the submitting author is an SfN student member, the student member must also be listed as the presenting author.
What are the requirements to be a co-author listed in an abstract author block?
Similar to the regular call for abstracts, all co-authors included on abstract author blocks are required to have a free My SfN account. (Note: Membership is not required to create an account or to be a co-author on an abstract. SfN membership is required to submit an abstract.) Learn more about co-author requirements.
Does this mean the SfN annual meeting will always have late-breaking abstracts?
No, late-breaking abstracts are an experiment for Neuroscience 2024 and are not guaranteed for any future meetings.
I have a lot of other questions about the annual meeting!
