Jean-Francois Bernard

Jean-François Bernard, Director of Research at the French Institute for Health and Medical Research (INSERM), died on March 10, 2014, at 63, after a sudden vascular damage. His name will remain attached to the precise description of spinal cord and brain circuits involved in psychoaffective components of pain, especially the direct connection between the dorsal horn of the spinal cord and the parabrachial nucleus for pain-associated aversive messages. His enthusiasm for research has been particularly stimulating for all his students and colleagues.
