Chapter of the Year Award
The Chapter of the Year (COY) Award recognizes outstanding chapters for their efforts and accomplishments across a broad range of activities that are in line with the mission and strategic initiatives of SfN.
Three deserving Chapters will be awarded $1,000 each for their impactful work from the previous calendar year (2024).
If you would like to nominate a specific member of an SfN chapter for their efforts and accomplishments, consider nominating them for the Next Generation Award. For more information, please review the Awards and Prizes FAQs.
Eligibility
- Chapter must be in good standing and active by submitting an annual report every other year. Applications from inactive chapters will not be considered. Confirm your chapter’s status by emailing chapters@sfn.org.
- Chapter must not be a recipient of the Next Generation Award in the same calendar year.
- Chapter must not be a recipient of the Chapter of the Year Award from the previous calendar year.
Application Criteria & Materials
Application Criteria:
- Application must be submitted by the chapter representative
- Due to potential conflicts of interest, members of the selection committee may not be the applicants.
Application:
Please provide a brief essay describing how the chapter is furthering and supporting SfN’s mission at the community level through their activities in 2024. Keep in mind the following and include examples, such as:
- Implementing an innovative idea that includes the public, media, or political representatives in its outreach programs
- Chapter outreach providing neuroscience resources for K-12 education
- Extent and effectiveness of the chapter's methods for communicating with its members and to the general public (use of websites, Facebook, chapter newsletters, etc.)
- Degree to which the chapter promotes involvement with the local community outside of SfN members
- Demonstration of commitment to engagement in neuroscience advocacy issues
- Evidence of effective partnering across multiple institutions in implementing chapter activities
- Diversity of chapter members and of participants in chapter activities
- Demonstration of innovative programs and activities that can serve as models for other SfN chapters
Selection
Applications will be reviewed by the Chapters Subcommittee of the Global Membership Committee.
The top three applications will be chosen by the Chapters Subcommittee. Awardees will be recognized in conjunction with the annual meeting.
