SfN Writes Letters to the Editor Supporting Neuroscience Research
SfN Past President Steven Hyman and SfN President-Elect Eric Nestler teamed up to address pertinent neuroscience research funding issues regarding mental illness and other disorders.
“Investment in neuroscience, genetics and cognitive science deserves full-throated support at the National Institute of Mental Health and elsewhere,” Hyman and Nestler said in a letter to the editor of The Washington Post.
Hyman and Nestler wrote another letter to the editor of The New York Times advocating for more neuroscience research in order to find more effective treatments for severe mental disorders.
“With focused neuroscience investment, this is beginning to change, and successful efforts to improve treatments will require even greater basic understanding,” Hyman and Nestler said.
