Every March, neuroscientists participate in Brain Awareness Week (BAW), an international celebration of the brain and nervous system. Founded by the Dana Foundation 22 years ago, Brain Awareness Week is the global campaign to increase public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research. This year, SfN members participated in activities ranging from taking selfies with brain models to making crafts using the drawings of Santiago Ramón y Cajal as inspiration, and even organizing a museum exhibition of neuroscience-themed art. Enjoy a few photos of the celebrations that happened this year in the slideshow above.
Check out the members-only resources from Neuronline to get ideas for year-round outreach, and watch the BAW webinar on BrainFacts.org that features information on outreach activities related to our five main senses.
Another way to get involved with neuroscience outreach is by producing an educational video about the brain and entering it in the Brain Awareness Video Contest . The first-place winner is awarded $1,000 and a free trip to SfN’s annual meeting.
