AbstractAs emphasized by SfN pres. Dr. Ann Young in the Spring 2004 Neuroscience Qtr., public education is one of 4 cornerstones of SfN's strategic plan. Having a neuroscience presence at teacher meetings including National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) & National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) is a way to accomplish this goal. Representatives from Comm. on Animals in Research and Comm. on Neuroscience Literacy (CNL) attended the 2003 NSTA meeting and expressed concern about the quality and accuracy of neuroscience content presented. Local chapter participation was enlisted in a national effort to expand upon neuroscience offerings for teachers. At the 2004 NSTA meeting, SfN's CNL partnered with neuroscientists from the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience (CBN) and Atlanta Chap. of SfN to provide accurate & relevant neuroscience content to teachers nationwide.
